About This Publication
In 2009, the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (now the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) announced a £20 million ‘Transformation Fund’ to support innovative informal adult and community learning projects across England. NIACE won the publicly tendered contract to manage the fund, which received 1,416 applications. The final 314 successful Transformation Fund projects offer powerful evidence of what informal learning can achieve. We have summarised a wealth of information from the projects into an overall summary report, Transforming lives, which describes project activities and outcomes.
This report is accompanied by a series of papers that address the following themes:
• Citizenship
• Arts and culture
• Broadcasting and technology
• Supporting families
• Health and wellbeing
• Disabled learners
• Young adults not in employment, education or training
• Older learners
• Education for sustainable development
A separate document, The Transformation Fund on informal adult and community learning: The Projects, is available to download. This contains a list of all 314 Transformation Fund projects, ordered by project code, project name (where relevant) and organisation.
