GO-Learn is the name of ‘Golden Opportunities to Learn’, a non-prescriptive toolkit designed to allow organisations to harness the interest generated by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in attracting adults and young people into learning, volunteering and work.
It is about helping organisations, through a collection of case-studies and easy steps, to find ways to engage adults and young people through sport, recreation or cultural activities, and about adding the element of work and employability skills to these activities. The challenge is not necessarily for organisations to deliver every aspect of a programme themselves but rather to link up and co-work with other organisations.
So, if you are part of a community organisation, group, club, Further Education College or local authority and you feel that you can offer training to adults and young people that will allow them to progress towards further learning, volunteering or paid employment, this toolkit is for you.
This toolkit was commissioned by the Community Learning strand of the South East Education, Skills and Employment Group for London 2012 (SEESEL).
SEESEL wants to use the power of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to deliver a far-reaching education, skills and employment legacy. SEESEL also supports the delivery of the government’s education, employment and skills programmes in the region. These programmes aim to maximise education, employment and skills nationally.
The GO-Learn toolkit is central to SEESEL’s search to find innovative ways to take advantage of the London 2012 Games to stimulate learning and skills development, giving priority to those adults and young people who would not normally take up more conventional skills development opportunities.
