About This Publication
Few things are more important than talking and listening to, and playing with young children because they learn by imitating adults and making sense of the world by exploring it in their games. The Basic Skills Agency has published the Fun... series, to help fathers, mothers, carers and childminders of 3 to 5 year olds to enjoy playing with their children. Each booklet focuses on a different set of activities, all intended to teach children to be aware of literacy and numeracy through play and games. All the activities match the Foundation stage early learning goals and all have been tried and tested in a wide range of settings. The booklets are ideal for all those who live and work with young children and provide a wealth of ideas and support. Practical advice is given for all the games and adults are told how they are helping their children with language and maths. There are suggestions of what to say for every game and all the activities described are simple to do at home - no need to buy expensive or specialist equipment.
