About This Publication
The Basic Skills Agency and the Prison Service funded three family learning projects in prisons to help young offenders to improve their own basic skills, and those of their children. The projects aimed to offer practical ways for parents to support language, literacy and numeracy development of their children at home and during visits, and at the same time enable young offenders who were parents to work towards accreditation. The report details what targets were achieved, and key factors contributing to the success of the projects.
